MASSACHUSETTS is an expensive state; housing, transportation, fuel, and healthcare all drive up the cost of living. Luckily, Massachusetts is also a wealthy state; the second wealthiest in the nation, with a median income of more than $52,000, or about $25 an hour.

Unless you happen to be making the $6.75 minimum wage in Massachusetts, in which case you are not so lucky.

A bill to raise the minimum wage in the state by $1 per hour over the next two years made its way out of committee yesterday and will be in line for a vote before the end of the summer.
The proposal, which was recommended by the state House Committee on Labor and Workforce Development, would boost the minimum wage from $6.75 to $7.25 starting Jan. 1, 2007, and raise it another 50 cents to $7.75 on Jan. 1, 2008.
